Details

The Papilio Zagreus is one of the few famous swallow-tailed butterflies that does not have a swallow-tail. But that isn't the only thing that distinguishes this "Tiger Swallow-Tail" - its wing shape more closely resembles the heliconidae family. Compare (for instance) the Tithorea Harmonia- which has a similar coloring. This wing shape makes the Papilio Zagreus appear much larger than some other swallow tails that sport a similar wing span. For a flashy touch- the Zagreus sports yellow feathers on the hind wings - but not right next to the body where you would expect them (they provide warmth) - they rest along the first large vein next to the body. Lastly- the Zagreus has some pretty colored antennae (not captured so well in the photograph but they are similar to the Tithorea Harmonia).
