Just exactly what color is this butterfly? This "Mother of Pearl" has colors that are a little difficult to determine. In some angles- it is clearly green - but at other angles- it is clearly pink reflective. Nevertheless- cameras are not sure what color it is either - check out the alternate image to see the colors a camera picks up with improper lighting - the result is deceptive so don't be fooled when you find similar pictures online. The picture to the left is more accurate but the discrepancy demonstrates why this gorgeous butterfly is truly the Mother of Pearl! The underside resembles a leaf - part of this butterfly's camouflage is the leafy shape of its wings – the underside is a striking greenish color that is unique among the Salamis family. This wing design is unique in the butterfly order and serves to set this butterfly apart from other species.
